Pietraviva is perched on a hill only a few kilometres from Ambra, Bucine and Siena. It seems that the little centre, which stood on the opposite hill, was destroyed at the end of the 13th century and rebuilt in the present location for a better defence. The remaining castle walls in the fortress, which are still visible, forms the wall of some of the present day accommodation. The medieval church Santa Lucia was completely rebuilt in 1580. The vicarage, on the right side of the church, is from the 16th century.
The medieval character of Pietraviva has not changed in essence. The only difference is that nowadays you have a large choice regarding leisure activities. The area offers horseback riding, golf, hiking, cycling or simply relax whilst enjoying the beautiful environment. Or that even on Sundays you’ll find the little “Bottega” (small grocer’s shop) open next door.
